At Hill City, we don’t want our beliefs to merely exist on page, but in person also. Nonetheless, we don’t want there to be confusion on where we stand doctrinally. We are committed to the rich, historic, orthodox essentials of the Christian faith.

  • The gospel is the good news that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, Jesus Christ, to rescue and redeem sinners.

And he has promised us that “whoever believes in Him [will not] perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16). For “the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Rom. 6:23). Through Christ’s atoning work on our behalf, we can be reconciled to a right relationship with God, having peace with Him. The Bible is clear: if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved! This salvation is not by our own doing–it can’t be earned through good works. Rather, it is freely gifted to us by the grace of God through faith in Christ, and this gift is available to anyone and everyone, so long as we turn from our sins and trust in Christ for our salvation!

  • We believe that the Bible–all 66 books between the Old and New Testament–is God’s Word. By that, we mean that God has spoken to us, breathing out His Word through human authors to reveal His perfect will & plan of salvation. We believe His Word is therefore true, inspired, inerrant, and authoritative for us in informing our thoughts (orthodoxy) and instructing our behaviors (orthopraxy). It is completely reliable and trustworthy, serving as the standard by which we measure all our creeds, conduct, and opinions.

  • We believe there is only one true, living God, who created the heavens and the earth; who upholds, sustains, governs, and providentially directs all that exists. He, having a triune nature, exists eternally in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (the Trinity); equal in every divine perfection, and executing distinct but harmonious roles in the work of salvation.

  • From the beginning, humanity has been created in the image of God, possessing intrinsic worth and dignity, made to enjoy fellowship with God and mirror His goodness in the created order. Yet, through Adam, sin entered the world and man has “fallen”, meaning we are now born with a nature bent towards sin. In light of that, we believe that all human beings have chosen to sin and fall short of God’s glory, and the resulting penalty for sin is death and eternal separation from God’s presence.

  • Jesus is the Son of God, the second person of the Trinity, God incarnate; the Word made flesh, both fully God and fully human. He is the Christ; the promised King over the kingdom of God, who was born of the virgin Mary, was crucified under Pontius Pilate, and who died as a substitutionary sacrifice to atone for the penalty of our sin. He was then buried, physically resurrected three days later, ascended on high to sit at the right hand of God, and is coming again to judge the living and the dead and establish God’s kingdom fully and finally.

  • We believe that our sin has separated us from God, resulting in eternal separation from Him. The only way to be reconciled to God is by trusting in Christ for eternal life. This salvation is freely gifted to us by grace through faith. Through genuine faith in Christ and a definite turn from our sins (repentance), we are justified in God’s sight. Through faith, the Holy Spirit is given to indwell the lives of believers, guiding and empowering them to live Christ-like lives, full of love, good works, and obedience to God’s commands (sanctification) until the Day Christ returns to judge the living and the dead, glorifying His saints in the final resurrection (glorification).

  • We believe the church is the manifold wisdom of God on earth; the primary instrument through which God is fulfilling his redemptive purposes on earth, by the power of the Spirit in the name of Christ. It consists of the visible body and the invisible body of Christ. The visible body of Christ is the local congregation of baptized believers who, bound by the gospel of Jesus Christ, have made a covenant to gather together regularly to worship God, love one another, practice the biblical ordinances, encourage each other’s faith, and live on mission to make disciples of Jesus Christ. The invisible church is the catholic (meaning “universal”) church, consisting of all genuine believers across the world from all times in all places, whom God will call home at the end of all things, when Christ returns in glory to judge the world and separate the true from the untrue.
